莱斯特·库尔茨（Lester Kurtz），耶鲁大学神学院宗教学硕士，芝加哥大学社会学博士，得克萨斯州立大学奥斯汀分校社会学教授、宗教研究中心主任，曾任美国和平与正义研究协会主席，美国社会学和平、战争和社会冲突分会主席，2005年被授予“罗宾?威廉斯杰出职业成就奖”（Robin Williams Distinguished Career Award）。他曾在芝加哥大学、西北大学、印度德里大学及台湾东大学等多所大学访学授课。 主要研究领域为比较宗教社会学、和平与冲突、西方和非西方社会理论等，一直在寻找解决暴力的出路，创建了一个暴力理论系统。曾创立及编辑多本重要学术刊物，主编《非暴、和平和冲突百科全书》，另与人合编《非暴力社会运动——一种地理学视角的分析》，代表作为《异端的政治——罗马天主教的现代主义危机》（获宗教科学研究协会杰出著作奖）。
